Fiverr link building is safe only when the seller does real outreach for links on relevant sites with actual readers, and that is rare at gig prices. Most cheap backlink gigs deliver profile, comment, forum or PBN links that Google's spam policies treat as link spam and its SpamBrain system is built to ignore. Check the target sites before ordering.
You saw a gig promising "50 high DA backlinks" for less than the cost of lunch. It has hundreds of five-star reviews, the seller replies within minutes, and a spreadsheet arrives three days later. Then you open the links: a profile page on a forum nobody posts in, a comment under a 2014 article, a "guest post" on a site where every article links to a casino. Whether that is safe depends on what is actually in the spreadsheet.
What do Fiverr backlink gigs usually deliver?
Most low-priced backlink gigs deliver links you could create yourself in minutes, because that is the only way the price works.
Profile and web 2.0 links
A profile link is a URL in your bio on a forum, directory or free blog platform. They are easy to make in bulk, rarely indexed, and pass little or nothing.
Blog comment and forum links
These are links left in comment sections and old threads. Most platforms add rel="nofollow" or rel="ugc" automatically, and mass-posted comments look like spam to the site owner and to Google.
PBN and "guest post" links on link farms
Higher-priced gigs often sell posts on private blog networks or on sites built only to sell links. They look like real articles but have no real readers. Our explainers on what a PBN is and what a link farm is show how to spot them.
Real outreach links
A minority of sellers do genuine outreach, emailing relevant sites and earning placements. These sellers charge per link, deliver a handful rather than hundreds, and will name the target sites before you pay.
Is buying backlinks on Fiverr against Google's rules?
Yes, if the links are paid for and pass ranking credit. Google's spam policies list "buying or selling links for ranking purposes" as link spam, including "exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links." A paid link is only within the rules if it carries rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow", which removes the ranking benefit most buyers are paying for.
The policy does not care which marketplace you used. A Fiverr order and a private invoice are treated the same way.
Will Fiverr backlinks get my site penalized?
Usually the links are ignored rather than punished, but a pattern of bought links can still lead to a manual action. On 14 December 2022 Google announced that its AI system SpamBrain could detect "both sites buying links, and sites used for the purpose of passing outgoing links", and that credit passed by those links would be lost. The rollout took about two weeks and covered all languages.
The likely outcome: wasted money
If SpamBrain discounts the links, nothing visible happens. Your rankings don't move, and the money is gone.
The bad outcome: a manual action
If a human reviewer sees a clear pattern of bought links, Google can issue a manual action, which appears in the Manual actions report of Search Console. Recovering means removing or disavowing the links and filing a reconsideration request. Our guide to disavowing bad backlinks covers the steps.
How to check a Fiverr seller before you order
A five-minute check rules out most bad gigs, because the warning signs are visible before you pay.
Ask for the list of target sites
A seller who does real outreach can tell you which sites, or at least which kinds of sites, your link will appear on. "Our private network" or "high DA sites" without names is the answer to walk away from.
Check the traffic, not the DA
Domain Authority and Domain Rating can be inflated with links from other spam sites. Look up the target site's organic traffic trend in a free tool. A site with DR 60 and almost no search traffic is selling links, not attracting readers.
Read the target site's recent posts
If every recent article is a thin "guest post" with an outbound commercial link, the site exists to sell placements. Google can see that pattern as easily as you can.
Watch for volume and speed promises
"500 backlinks in 3 days" can only be done with automation. Real placements take weeks and arrive one at a time.
What Fiverr itself does and doesn't check
Fiverr does not vet whether a backlink gig follows Google's rules. Its Terms of Service say Fiverr "is generally not obligated to proactively check the content posted by users." Reviews on a gig measure whether buyers received a spreadsheet on time, not whether the links helped or survived. A seller can have thousands of happy reviews from buyers who never checked their rankings afterwards.
Safer ways to spend the same money
If you have $50 to $200 a month for links, a few methods give you more for it than a gig.
Earn links with something worth citing
Original numbers, a free tool or a clear guide earn links without paying anyone. One useful page can collect links for years.
Trade links with relevant sites
A small number of in-content swaps with related sites is a lower-risk trade than buying, as our comparison of link exchange vs buying backlinks explains. On Backlinkster each swap is verified by API, and the free plan covers 5 swaps a month (see how it works).
Hire for outreach, not for links
If you want to outsource, pay a freelancer for hours of outreach to sites you approve, rather than a fixed number of links. You then own the list and the relationships.
Frequently asked questions
Are Fiverr backlinks worth it?
Bulk backlink gigs are rarely worth it, because the links are usually ignored by Google. A seller doing named, manual outreach can be worth it, but expect to pay per link rather than per hundred.
Can Fiverr backlinks hurt my site?
They can. Most are simply discounted, but a visible pattern of paid links can lead to a manual action that removes rankings until you clean it up.
How do I remove bad backlinks I bought on Fiverr?
Ask the seller or the site owners to remove them first. If that fails, list the domains in a disavow file and upload it in Search Console. Do this only if you have a manual action or a clear pattern of paid links.
Does Fiverr allow selling backlinks?
Fiverr lists many backlink gigs and does not check them against Google's rules. Being allowed on Fiverr says nothing about whether the links are allowed by Google.
