Find your match

Matching is where most link building dies. Cold outreach to strangers converts in the low single digits because the person on the other end has no reason to care. Everyone in the queue here has already opted in to swapping, so the question isn't whether they want a link — it's whether your site is a good fit for theirs.

Publish the partner post

The rewrite matters more than it sounds. A link inside a paragraph you actually wrote reads as editorial to both readers and search engines; the same link in a sidebar list reads as a link exchange, because that's what sidebar link lists have always been. This is the single biggest difference between a swap that works and one that gets discounted.

Aren't reciprocal links against Google's guidelines?

What Google's guidelines actually name is 'excessive link exchange' and links whose primary purpose is manipulating rankings — typically at scale, with exact-match anchors, in footers or dedicated 'links page' dumps. A small number of in-content links between genuinely related sites, published in real editorial copy, is ordinary web behaviour and always has been. The risk lives in the pattern and the volume, not in the fact that two sites link to each other.

How is this different from a link marketplace?

Marketplaces sell bare links: money goes one way, link goes the other. That pattern is exactly what Google's systems are built to detect, and the seller has no stake in your site beyond the invoice. Backlinkster is barter — both sides publish, both sides receive, and the monthly fee goes to the platform rather than to a link seller.

What stops someone removing their link later?

The checker re-verifies every swapped link for 90 days after it goes live. A dropped link is detected automatically and counts against that member's reputation, which affects their future matches. You don't have to police anything yourself.

Do I need a high-authority site to join?

No. Matching is relative — new sites tend to swap with other new sites, and that's genuinely useful, because a link from a small relevant site is worth more than a link from a large irrelevant one. If your domain authority is low, that's an argument for starting, not for waiting.

How many swaps is safe?

There's no published threshold, and anyone who quotes you one is guessing. The practical guidance is that swaps should be a minority of your backlink profile and should look like the rest of it — varied anchors, in-content placement, relevant sites.
