RankYak Backlink Exchange: How It Works and Alternatives

RankYak Backlink Exchange: How It Works and Alternatives

RankYak's backlink exchange is an automatic link network included in its $99-a-month content plan. Once switched on, partner sites in your niche get links placed inside relevant articles, the same site links to you at most once a month, and placed links are re-checked on a schedule. It opens only after the 3-day trial and isn't sold separately.

You are probably looking at RankYak because it promises links without outreach, and you want to know what actually happens after you flip the switch, what it costs, and whether something cheaper does the same thing if you don't need AI articles.

We make Backlinkster, a different link exchange, so treat our view with that in mind. The RankYak facts below come from its backlink exchange page and pricing page, checked on 16 October 2026.

How the RankYak exchange works

The exchange is a network: you join it with one switch, and RankYak handles partner selection and placement without you contacting anyone.

Joining the network

You turn the exchange on in your RankYak account. Your site then both gives and receives links inside the network. RankYak says only active, publishing sites qualify and that an automated risk check keeps high-risk sites from giving or receiving links.

Where the links go

Placement is decided per article. RankYak says each link is matched to the content of the article it sits in, and an editorial pass rejects weak fits. Its feature page doesn't state whether links go only into RankYak-written articles or into other posts on your site, so ask before you join if that matters to you.

Pacing and balance

RankYak says the same site links to you at most once a month, that no single site dominates your profile, and that giving and receiving stay balanced. It doesn't publish how many links a month a typical site receives.

Link checks

Each placed link is checked on a schedule, and if a link disappears the system records it. Third-party reviews describe statuses such as published, pending, expired and removed in the dashboard.

What RankYak costs

The exchange is part of RankYak Pro, which on 16 October 2026 cost $99 a month per site, or $82.50 a month billed yearly. That price includes up to 30 AI-written articles a month (about 21 on a weekday-only schedule, per its FAQ), keyword research and auto-publishing. There is a 3-day free trial with full access, but the exchange "opens when your subscription starts, after the trial." Agency pricing charges each client site the same as the first.

What RankYak doesn't publish

Before you commit, note what the public pages leave out. None of these is a red flag on its own, but they are fair questions to ask the company.

Link volume

There is no stated number of links per month, so you can't work out a cost per link in advance.

Anchor text and target pages

The feature page doesn't say whether you choose the page that receives the link or the anchor text used.

Leaving the network

Third-party write-ups say leaving stops both giving and receiving. Ask whether links already placed stay live after you cancel.

Is an automated exchange safe?

It depends on how relevant and how frequent the links are, not on whether software arranged them. Google's spam policies list "excessive link exchanges" and "partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking" as link spam. RankYak's once-a-month cap per site and its balance rules are designed to avoid an obvious pattern, but any network where members link to each other can leave a footprint if it grows large and loosely related. Keep an eye on which sites link to you, and read our page on whether backlink exchanges are safe.

RankYak alternatives if you only want backlinks

If you already write your own content, paying $99 a month mostly for AI articles is expensive. These options sell the exchange part on its own.

Option Model Price (checked 16 Oct 2026)
RankChase Niche and DR matching, you arrange swaps Free list; Premium $19/month per website
Ranking Raccoon Vetted reciprocal community 7-day trial, then $25/month or free Lite
LinkExchange.ai Credit marketplace via WordPress plugin Free with 500 starter credits; Pro $174/year (first-year offer)
Backlinkster 1-for-1 in-content swaps, each verified by API Free 5 swaps/month; Pro $19; $49 for 10 domains

Backlinkster is the manual counterpart to RankYak: you see and accept each partner, whoever starts a swap publishes first, and the link you submit must be an article on your own domain. See the plans. For a longer side-by-side of the exchange-only tools, see RankChase alternatives.

When RankYak is the better choice

RankYak fits if you were going to pay for AI content anyway and want links handled without any outreach or approval steps. In that case the exchange is a bonus on top of the articles.

When Backlinkster is not the right fit

If you want zero involvement, Backlinkster isn't it: you review partners and publish their link yourself. If you have no articles on your site yet, you can't take part, since swaps need an article URL on your own domain. And if what you really need is content, a content tool will do more for you than any exchange.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the RankYak backlink exchange without the content plan?

Not according to its pricing page on 16 October 2026. The exchange is included in RankYak Pro at $99 a month per site and isn't sold on its own.

Does the RankYak trial include backlinks?

No. RankYak's pricing page says the network opens when your subscription starts, after the 3-day trial.

How many backlinks does RankYak give you?

RankYak doesn't publish a number. It says the same site links to you at most once a month and that giving and receiving stay balanced.

Is RankYak's exchange reciprocal?

It is a network where your site both gives and receives links, with balance between the two. RankYak doesn't say the site linking to you is always the site you link to.
