Top Guest Posting Sites: How to Find Ones That Work

Top Guest Posting Sites: How to Find Ones That Work

There is no stable list of top guest posting sites, because editors change rules and close submissions often. What works is a short list you build yourself: sites your customers read that publish outside contributors, found with search operators and vetted for real traffic. Two sites with public guidelines are shown below as models of what to look for.

You searched "free guest posting sites 2026", opened a list of 400 URLs, and found that half redirect, a quarter ask for money, and the rest are about casinos. The list is not wrong, it is just old and aimed at everyone. Here is a method that gives you ten sites worth pitching.

Disclosure: we make Backlinkster, a link exchange platform. It is one of the routes at the end, and the first sections do not depend on it.

Why a "top 10 guest posting sites" list will not help you

A public list goes stale within months and is read by everyone, so the sites on it are flooded with pitches. Guest-post list pages themselves warn about this: results for the topic are dominated by roundups that say many of the sites have changed their guidelines or closed to outside submissions. Whatever a list claims about a site's traffic or rules, you have to re-check on the site's own page.

A second problem is intent. Google's May 25, 2017 post on large-scale article campaigns names "having the articles published across many different sites" as a warning sign. Working through a 400-site list is exactly that pattern.

Two guest posting sites with public rules

These two publish their guidelines, and they show how different good hosts are. Details were checked on October 13, 2026 and can change.

Site Topic Payment Links allowed Length Notable rules
Lilach Bullock SEO, digital marketing, SaaS Editorial posts unpaid; sponsored placements separate One contextual link 1,500 to 3,500 words Rejects beginner definitions, recycled advice and content written only to earn a link. Replies in 3 to 6 weeks; no reply after 8 is a no
Hunch Ads blog Paid social, performance marketing Not stated 1 to 2 links to your site, pointing at articles About 800 words Must be original and not fully AI-generated; no republishing the full article elsewhere

Notice what they share: a named audience, a cap on links, a ban on reposted or machine-written filler, and a demand for first-hand work. If a site's page does not say what it rejects, assume it rejects nothing, and treat the link accordingly.

How to find guest posting sites for your niche

Search operators surface sites that already publish contributors, and the editors have shown they accept outside writers. Replace "your topic" with your niche:

  • "your topic" "write for us"
  • "your topic" "guest post by"
  • "your topic" "contribute to our site"
  • "your topic" "submit a guest post"

Then widen from there. Look at where your competitors' authors appear, check "contributor" tags on blogs you follow, and read the author bio line on articles in your niche.

How to vet a guest posting site before you write a word

Run six checks in this order and drop a site at the first fail:

  1. Real traffic. Use a third-party estimate. A strong-looking domain with no visits is a warning.
  2. Recent posts. At least one new article a week from named authors with real profiles.
  3. Topic fit. Your article should look natural next to the last ten.
  4. Disclosure of paid posts. If it charges, the link should be tagged rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow", as Google's spam policies require for paid placements.
  5. Outbound links. A page with thirty links to unrelated sites is a link farm.
  6. Editorial standard. Does it reject pitches? A site that accepts everyone gives a link worth nothing.

Ahrefs found that of 180 "write for us" sites it contacted, 25.5% responded and about half of those asked for payment, at an average of $77.80 (Ahrefs). Many "free" sites are not.

Free guest posting sites: what the price really is

Free means you pay in time. At unpaid editorial sites, expect several weeks to a reply and a real rewrite if you are accepted. Paid sites cost less time and more money: PressWhizz's July 2026 analysis of 22,703 placements put the average guest post at $164 (PressWhizz). How much guest posting costs breaks the spread down.

When Backlinkster is the better route, and when it is not

A swap with a fellow site owner skips the cold pitch: you publish their article, they publish yours, and each swap is verified by API. The submitted link must be an article URL on your own domain. It suits site owners with content who want links on relevant sites without waiting weeks for replies.

It is not the right fit if you want exposure on a large publication's audience, if your site has no articles to swap yet, or if you want a byline in a specific outlet. For that, pitch directly using how to write a guest post that gets accepted.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best guest posting sites? The best ones are the sites your customers already read that publish outside contributors. Build a list of ten using search operators and vet traffic and topic fit before pitching.

Are there free guest posting sites? Yes. Many blogs publish unpaid editorial guest posts, and some pay nothing in either direction. Expect weeks to a reply and a rewrite, and check the site's page, since many "free" lists include sites that charge.

Where can I find guest posting opportunities? Search your topic with phrases like "write for us" and "guest post by", check where competitors' authors are published, and read the guidelines page of each blog you follow.

How do I find a site that accepts guest posts? A site that ranks for queries like "your topic" plus "write for us" already accepts them. Then confirm the rules on the site's page and check for recent contributor articles.

Do guest posts on any site help SEO? No. Relevance, real traffic and an editorial standard matter more than the domain's score, and mass guest posting is flagged by Google as a warning sign.

Should I pay for a guest post? Only for exposure. Google expects paid links to be tagged sponsored, so they will not carry ranking credit. See are sponsored links worth anything.
